CIDER TUESDAY: Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider Hallelujah Hopricot

Reverend Nat West might have received ordainment from the holy church of the World Wide Web, but that doesn’t make the name of his cider brand, Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider, any less fetching. Hey, if monks can do wine, why can’t reverends do cider? The good reverend produces small-batch, dry and off-dry ciders with fruit from the Pacific Northwest, including his Hallelujah Hopricot. Built on a core of heirloom apples, the cider is accented with layers from steeping coriander and orange peel into the juice while fermenting in French saison and Belgian ale yeasts. Finally, Nat tops with apricot juice and two different hops types. The result is audacious — a power-packed cider with attitude in ginger, pine and apricot aromas backed by a citrus-hopped, rich in fruit palate with a tangy finish. It’s the liquid form of a ginger-apricot sour chew candy.
