BEER THURSDAY: Harmon Brewing Pt. Defiance IPA

Not the best parenting move to play favorites, but the head brewer at Harmon Brewing in Tacoma, Wash. has picked their Pt. Defiance IPA as his “favorite child” and holds rank as the brewery’s most popular regular tap. As the inaugural brew for the team when they opened in 1997, the recipe for the IPA calls for three different ranges of hops and four variants of malted barley to give beer enthusiasts a balanced glass with a moderate 6.1% ABV and a docile 70 IBUs. In the same frame, this tamer style of IPA brings aromas of sweet malt and brown sugar to match the creamy head of the beer, with caramel and citrus pulling through on the palate. More in an English-style, this IPA might not soothe the craving for a hungry hop-head but it certainly brings diversity to the IPA spectrum.
