Summerland Heritage Cider Co. Porter’s Dry

by | May 5, 2015

Devoted to the basics of traditional cider—freshly pressed apple juice and yeast—three Summerland, British Columbia orchardists set out two decades ago to start Summerland Heritage Cider Co. Grafting cider varietals to their existing apple trees, the Summerland team sought to produce ciders true to those of the cider Mecca of Somerset in South West England. The small-batch cidery grows and produces three ciders, based on fruit like Yarlington Mill and Kingston Black along with the medium bittersharp Porter’s Perfection showcased in their Porter’s Dry. Aspirations met and made with all cider apples, this scrumpy is respectful and redolent of those in England’s West County. The nose is earthy and ripe, with aromas of Asian pear, golden raisin, red dessert apples and savory herbs. The palate is a textural trip, with structural tannins that grip and let go into rich and lux apple flavors, finishing balanced and off-dry
