Ste. Michelle Introduces Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc

by | May 2, 2024

Woodinville, Wash,. — Washington’s founding winery is debuting Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc nationwide this Spring. With only 80 calories, zero sugar and lower carbs and alcohol, Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT wines are crafted for consumers seeking a lighter wine experience without compromising quality and taste.  The wines are available at select retail grocery stores nationally with a suggested retail price of $12.99.

“Many consumers are more mindful about their food and beverage choices and looking for lighter options but don’t want to sacrifice taste and flavor,” says Tim Cannon, Chateau Ste. Michelle Director of Marketing. “With Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT we are thrilled to offer wine drinkers a lighter experience, but with the full flavor and award-winning quality they expect from Chateau Ste. Michelle. Our Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT wines are crafted not only for people wanting to make more balanced lifestyle choices but also for those occasions ideally suited for lighter, lower alcohol wine like enjoying at brunch or sipping poolside.”

Sourced primarily from Washington state’s cooler Columbia Valley vineyards, Chateau Ste. Michelle 2022 LIGHT Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing and vibrant wine with citrus and tropical flavors. The Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT 2022 Chardonnay is produced from vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA in a fresh yet soft style with subtle oak notes and flavors of lemon, apple, and ripe apricot.

“It was really important to us when crafting the Chateau Ste. Michelle LIGHT wines, that these lower calorie wines are still delicious,” says Katie Nelson, VP of Winemaking, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. “We are fortunate that Washington’s unique growing conditions allows grapes from select vineyards to reach full flavors at lower sugar levels.  Grapes picked at naturally lower sugar levels produce less alcohol in the wines which helps us to achieve the lower 9% ABV with minimal alcohol adjustment after fermentation. The result is more flavor and texture in the wines which we are really proud of, and hope people enjoy.”
