Rumored to have sold at an enticingly low price, the folks at Parkdale, Oregon’s Solera Brewery bought the now defunct Elliot Glacier Public House space, brewery equipped and million dollar view of Mt. Hood included. Remodeled, revamped and reopened shortly after the purchase, Solera Brewery came to be in early 2012, giving the century-old railroad town of 300 inhabitants their brewery back. Leading a collaborative team of local beer nerds, brewmaster Jason Kahler is also storied in the area, having worked for Hood River, Oregon’s Big Horse Brewpub, Full Sail Brewery and Walking Man Brewing in Stevenson, Washington.
After fraternizing with two Dutch breweries at a beer festival, Solera has released its limited Perzikboom Peach Sour, a collaboration with Het Uitje (Harlem, Netherlands) and Oersoep Browerj (Nijmergan, Netherlands) breweries. Try saying those out loud after a couple of these sours—the beer is fermented with Brettanomyces Clausseni and aged on fresh peaches for aromatics of international proportions. Bubble gum, buttered popcorn, citrus rind and juicy peach notes arrive first, while the tangy sweet scents come out amongst savory herbs and cheese on the backside. The mouthfeel is solid and mid-weight, where all of the flavors somehow coincide together and finish crisp, piquant and tangy.
