Sokol Blosser Introduces Oregon’s Only Super-Premium Boxed Wine

Pinot Noir & White Blend in 1.5-liter Boxes Available in August Nationwide

Sokol Blosser Winery, one of the Willamette Valley’s pioneering wineries founded nearly 50 years ago, is raising the bar in the boxed wine aisle with new Evolution Pinot Noir and Lucky No. 9 White Blend in 1.5-liter boxes. These two new wines are the only Oregon boxed wines on the market and the first to be nationally distributed.

“Consumers love boxed wine for its value and convenience, but until now, there were zero options for Oregon wine in boxes,” said Alison Sokol Blosser, CEO, Co-President and Second-Generation Winegrower. “We’re changing all that with Evolution Pinot Noir and Lucky No. 9 White Blend in 1.5-liter boxes. Wine lovers can now tap into amazing quality Oregon Pinot Noir sourced entirely from the Willamette Valley and Evolution Lucky No. 9 White Blend (made from Willamette Valley and Columbia Valley fruit) anytime. Plus, boxed wine has a lower carbon footprint and the boxes are recyclable. It’s a win-win with wine!”

Each 1.5-liter box is the equivalent of two 750 ml bottles of wine. Evolution Oregon Pinot Noir retails for $25 and the Lucky No. 9 White Blend retails for $18. In the box format, these wines are priced approximately 30 percent less than the same wines in 750 ml bottles. (Both will continue to be available in 750 ml bottles.) Plus, once opened, the wines stay fresh for up to 30 days in the box.

Consumers can look for the new Evolution boxed wines in grocery, liquor and chain retailers across the country by mid- August. They also will be available online at www.evolutionwine.com.

Evolution Boxed Wines Feature a Bright New Look

Evolution boxed wines are also debuting a brand new look, with bright colors and a modern new logo and typeface.

“Evolution has a fun and clever personality – the brand is all about making the most out of life’s moments,” added Sokol Blosser. “The fresh look of the new boxes brings Evolution’s personality to life in a more modern way. Plus, the Evolution name screams ‘newness’ and ‘what’s next?’ And in this case, what’s next is Oregon’s only super-premium boxed wine! These are affordable, delicious, approachable wines that can be part of any moment, from an easy night at home to a camping trip or a special celebration.”

Lightening the Environmental Load

In keeping with Sokol Blosser’s long commitment to sustainability, Evolution boxed wines have a reduced impact on the environment, packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes that also equate to reduced carbon emissions. According to a 2010 Life Cycle Assessment study commissioned by the alcohol monopolies in Sweden and Norway, a 1.5L boxed wine product will generate about 1/3 of the overall environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, as compared to a 750ml glass bottle.

Sokol Blosser turned to a partner in California to package its 1.5L Evolution boxed wine, so while both wines include fruit from the Willamette Valley in Oregon, neither can legally include that AVA (American Viticulture Area) name on the package. The Evolution Pinot Noir will be Oregon-appellated and the Lucky No. 9 White Blend will be American-appellated. Evolution 750ml bottles will feature the new branding by the end of 2020 and early 2021.
