In 1996, an Idahoan river guide structured Sockeye Brewing around the symbolism of the state’s iconic Sockeye Salmon, an ecologic staple of Sawtooth Mountain’s Salmon River. Similarly, the brewery grew to become a staple of regional craft beer, and today produces a broad lineup of natives (year-round originals) and seasonal canned offerings—including Idaho’s top-selling beer, the flagship Dagger Falls IPA.
The Sockeye Winterfest Seasonal Ale, Sockeye’s take on an American strong ale, stands out for its dark copper hue, smooth but hefty toffee malt and winter roastiness. Ample hops add balance to a bready flavor profile, and after the foamy head settles, a subtle aroma of caramel and barley creep into the background. After a rich yet crisp finish, sweeter yeast notes and bold malts linger in the mouth.
Implicit in its name, this award-winning winter ale is exclusively available starting November 1. Or opt for any of the “Big Six”—available at the two Boise brewpub locations, throughout Idaho or in Eastern Washington.
