In Preview: Taste Victoria’s Festival of Food and Wine

by | Jul 1, 2014

Head toward the Vancouver Island coast for tastings of more than 100 British Columbian wines accompanied by bites of in-season ingredients, as Taste: Victoria’s Festival of Food and Wine returns for its sixth annual celebration of local, sustainability-focused flavors.

The four-day stretch of purple tongues and fresh platefuls kicks off Thursday, July 24, and will offer a once-a-year opportunity to graze alongside a carefully curated selection of British Columbia’s top chefs and winemakers.

Food and drink lovers of all interest levels – from the casual wine drinker to the industry professional—can participate in a variety of hands-on workshops and interactive seminars, including “Best of Our Backyard,” a sommelier-led island wine and cheese pairing. Each event is designed to honor the region’s unique food and beverage culture, and in support of the local economy, each glass will be filled exclusively with blends of BC grapes.

Guests can look forward to a patio party at Hotel Grand Pacific’s Pacific Restaurant on Saturday, July 26, where sounds from a live bluegrass band will meet the scent of a roasting, whole pig on a spit. On Sunday, Taste continues in the spirit of pork with “Everything is Better With Bacon,” an exclusive, long-table grand finale dinner featuring multiple courses spotlighting the classic salty strips. And of course, no plate will be complete without an expertly-paired wine.
