Friday, October 10th through Sunday, October 12th, the Columbia Gorge Cidermasters are melding hard cider with the quintessential summer camp experience for a weekend-long cider tasting event in Hood River, Ore., as the Gorge CiderCamp.
With seven cideries and growing, the hard cider scene is exploding in the Hood River Valley. These craft cider makers source fruit from the more than 440 orchardists surrounding their production facilities to make a unique, local product—placing the area at the forefront of the new national hard cider movement.
Near the intersection of the Hood and Columbia rivers, cider enthusiasts of all levels can follow local apples from orchard to pint through behind-the-scenes tours and tastings at seven Columbia Gorge cideries, an orchard, an organic farm and a winery.
The three-day CiderCamp itinerary combines a variety of tours, cider pairing feasts, interactive workshops and more to deliver a unique opportunity for full immersion in the cider making process (and, of course, the cider drinking process). Meals and transportation are included in the package, so campers are free to explore the Hood River area in between specially prepared breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Columbia Gorge cider makers and orchard owners are proud of the region’s homegrown and brewed products, and are ready to offer knowledge and sips throughout the weekend. Pack a duffle bag—CiderCamp is the grown-up cider lover’s chance to revamp summer camp glory days.
