Back for its 27th year in support of the Washington winemaking industry, this year’s Auction of Washington Wines kicks off Thursday, August 14 with tastings and summer-inspired bites at the Picnic and Barrel Auction.
Guests at Woodinville, Wash.,’s elegant Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery will be in good company, with more than 100 winemakers on hand to offer tastes, and a culinary staff from Tulalip Resort Casino serving up a carefully curated dinner menu. Live music, games and plenty of plates lead up to the evening’s Barrel Auction, where guests can taste barrel samples of unreleased regional wines—and bid on cases (barrel portions) of their favorites.
Since its foundation in 1988, the Auction of Washington Wines has raised more than $30 million in support of Washington winemakers. This year, proceeds will benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital, as well as research efforts at Washington State University’s Viticulture and Enology Program.
The festivities continue through the weekend, with Friday evening’s posh Winemaker Dinner Series hosted at private Puget Sound-area estates. Saturday morning, Columbia Winery hosts a charity run and walk, and the event culminates that evening at Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Wine Gala and six-course dinner.
