Powell Street Craft Brewery is 4,500-square-feet of brewhouse artisanship in Vancouver’s East Village. The brewery, which consists of separate “micro” and “nano” brewhouses, and lounge, which is comprised of a growler fill station and seating area, was the holy grail for architectural technologist David Bowkett. After years of homebrewing, Bowkett took his dream and made it a reality when a space opened up on Vancouver’s Powell Street in November 2012 and the rest is Vancouver craft beer history.
Swimming against the sweeping tide of West Coast India Pale Ales, Bowkett and PSCB brew the White IPA (aka WIPA), a lighter, whiter version of the hop-forward style to stand amongst the waves. Wheat and pilsner malts offer a subtle malt foundation with Citra hops that stress only to 56 IBUs and provide juicy citrus qualities to the nose and slight bitterness to the palate. Bright and refreshing, this White IPA would do well ran through a citrus-laden Randall.
