Port Townsend Brewing Peeping Peater Scotch Ale

by | Dec 31, 2015

The original Port Townsend Brewing Co. was established in 1905, with the first beer tapping a year later. The company thrived in the community until Prohibition hit and closed the brewery. Today’s reincarnation is an Olympic Peninsula staple, a mainstay for Port Townsend, Washington residents and more since 1997. Reveled for its beer garden patio that is book-ended by the Kah Tai Lagoon and the Port Townsend Bay, the eponymous brewery has been brewing a standard set of ales since they opened their doors.

One principal sipper is the Peeping Peater Scotch, a roasty and malty ale for the season. The beer pours a copper red hue, clean and clear with aromas of peat, smoke, caramelized malts, almonds and toffee. The malty base is sturdy on the palate, with a prominent flavor of caramel, creamy malts and lifting hop bitterness in the finish. Pair with leftover holiday meatloaf or with a handful of salty mixed nuts.
