Oregon Spirit Distillers One-Eyed Jon Spiced Rum

Down in Bend, Oregon, between all the bike-powered pubs and breweries, oft-lauded Oregon Spirit Distillers is constantly busy doing what they do best—messing around with interesting combinations of botanicals. In One-Eyed Jon, they’ve used their talents to craft a small-batch spiced molasses rum with a flavor profile completely its own. That profile is bestowed on the spirit by a mish-mash of the spicy (black pepper, allspice, cardamom), the herbal (rosemary), the fruity (orange zest), the fragrant (vanilla) and the unexpected (locally roasted Bellatazza coffee) over a bourbon-y, butter-rich rum background. Of all the flavors, the coffee and bourbon notes stand out at first, but it’s the black pepper that gives this spirit its finishing kick.
