Named roaster of the year by Roast magazine in 2013, Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. hand roasts the beans they use daily. The 10-year-old company seeks beans all over the globe and collaborates with the coffee producers to generate the product sold and brewed at one of three coffee houses in Olympia. A major expansion kicked off for the roaster earlier this year that provided for production increase in not just the classics roasts but for retail and a nitro and conventional cold brew bottling area.
Given the gift of space, the brand’s cold brewed coffee varies with several different roasts. The Sweetheart Espresso is a simple yet fruity and caramel-y chilled beverage with sweet undertones and a chocolate aroma. The cold brew utilizes a technique called caramelization roast that maximizes the sweetness in the coffee. The method also carefully preserves the unique characteristics of the coffee in the cold brew. The result leads to a light colored, toasted taste similar to a strong black iced tea with a warm earthiness and fruit-forward sweetness.
