Nk’Mip Cellars 2012 Qwam Qwmt Merlot

by | Oct 15, 2014

For the first time, the wines of southern Okanagan Valley’s Nk’Mip Cellars are available in the United States. Pronounced “in-ka-meep,” the enunciation and drinking practices of these wines are now brought to Americans by way of Whole Foods Markets in Washington state and WineBCUSA online. As Canada’s first aboriginal owned-and-operated winery, the picturesque lakeside production facility soaks in the splendor of the area and hinges on its potential of being able to produce 18,000 cases in the 18,ooo-square-foot space.

Sourcing fruit from their own Inkameep Vineyard as well as the winery’s neighboring vineyard, the 2012 Qwam Qwmt Merlot is a testament to what Okanagan red wine can be. Rushing aromas of red currants, plum and brambly berries blend with the region’s characteristic sage scents, lemon thyme, leather and tobacco. Cocoa, plum and blackberry flesh out this medium-bodied wine on the palate, while acid provides structure and the tannins mingle smoothly with the lingering fruit.
