A Night Celebrating Women in Food, Drink and Leadership

by | Mar 8, 2017

Happy International Women’s Day! In honor of this day and March being Women’s History Month, Sip Northwest magazine has teamed up with Seattle’s acclaimed Ethan Stowell Restaurants (ESR) for a night celebrating women in food, drink and leadership. Hosted at Ballard’s Staple & Fancy on Sunday, March 26, the evening will feature foods from Staple & Fancy chefs Deb Taylor and Nicole Matson, with cider and wine from Nancy Bishop of Alpenfire Cider, Leah Jorgensen of Leah Jørgensen Cellars and Anna Schafer Cohen of àMaurice Cellars.

Benefiting the Women’s Funding Alliance, a charity that aims to advance leadership and economic opportunity for women and girls in Washington State, the dinner brings together local food and drink for the night, focusing on the importance of women in leadership roles.

“This dinner is a chance to show prime examples of women leading within the culinary industry, and for a cause striving to do the same thing in the local community,” says Erin James, editor-in-chief of the female-owned and-operated Sip Northwest. “We hope to see more women climb up the ladder and grab hold of all opportunities to excel. This time, we toast to this mission with delicious food and drink.”

For ESR beverage director, Sennen David, the dinner hits close to home for him. “I have a baby daughter and I value any action which fosters a world full of opportunities that aren’t based on gender,” he says. “I would love for dinners and events featuring female chefs, winemakers, cider makers, etc., to become so commonplace that they become solely special for the personalities of those involved and the quality of that which is on the table.”

And personalities plus quality food and drink on the table is what guests will receive. With two seatings — at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. — the multi-course paired meal is $95 per person, with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Women’s Funding Alliance. Menu highlights include Penn Cove mussel escabeche with Alpenfire ‘Pirate’s Plank’ Bone Dry cider, stinging nettle and goat cheese ravioli with the 2015 Leah Jørgensen Loiregon Cabernet Franc and a bone-in ribeye with the 2012 àMaurice Night Owl red Bblend.

For reservations, call Staple & Fancy at (206) 789-1200.
