Monster Vineyards 2012 Monster Cabs

British Columbia winery Monster Vineyards was inspired by Ogopogo—the “Loch Ness” of Lake Okanagan, and thus, the primary antagonist of Okanaganites’ nightmares. Fortunately, the vineyard, that sits just two blocks off the lake, has been scaring off fewer folks than the body of water, due to their array of deliciously hair-raising (and glass-raising) wines. With monstrous names and abstract illustrations to match the winemakers’ imaginations, these lighthearted wines are causing a serious ruckus throughout the province. Indulging in and substituting said wines for Ogopogo-inspired terrors is the only way to kibosh the legend once and for all.

Monster Vineyards 2013 Monster Cabs is a prime choice of indulgence this season. The simple red blend is an easy sipper for either your solo homey happy hour or your fancy fall feast. Named Cabs for its blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, this “monster” begins with bright acidity, pushes through with dark fruit, earth and a plump body finishing slightly toasty to keep you on your toes all night long—just incase Ogopogo really is out there.
