If you’re in Portland and you get a major hankering for some Lompoc Brewing beers, chances are you aren’t too far from one of their brewpubs. Although the Fifth Quadrant brewery has the stronghold on production, there are four other locations, from NW to SE Portland, to knock back a Lompoc beer and nibble on some nosh. One of the latest to the Lompoc 22-ounce bottle lineup is the Pamplemousse Citrus India pale ale—a more modest West Coast IPA that sits at a “low” 5.8 percent ABV, 70 IBUs and was formerly only seen on tap. Four hop varieties along with real grapefruit juice go into this ale giving it an inherent juicy citrus nose with easy pine aromas, cucumber, fresh-cut grass and sweet toffee malts. The palate follows in suit, balanced in its mild bitterness with creamy malts, finishing medium-bodied and crisp.
