La Biblioteca Celebrates Collaboration with Burgundian Winemaker François Millet

by | Jul 19, 2024

Dundee, OR — July 18, 2024 — La Biblioteca, known for its limited release bottlings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is pleased to announce its collaboration with master winemaker François Millet. This partnership signals a new chapter in La Biblioteca’s journey to produce wines reflective of the unique terroir of Oregon’s Willamette Valley.  Millet is leading winemaking efforts with support from managing partner James Cahill, representing nearly a century of combined winemaking experience.

Millet, who spent over 35 years as chief winemaker at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé in Chambolle-Musigny, brings a wealth of knowledge and refined craftsmanship to La Biblioteca. Known for his meticulous approach to winemaking, Millet’s ability to create wines with exceptional balance and complexity enhance La Biblioteca’s portfolio. His experience with Burgundy’s esteemed vineyards also provides new insights and techniques, particularly in the areas of soil management and precision viticulture.

“The best examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have the markers of place, first and foremost,” says Millet. “This place, the Aegrina Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA in particular, is exceptional. Its exposure to wind and chilly air. Its volcanic soil and underlying marine basalts. Its protected weather shadow of the Coast Range.”

Cahill, who is also head winemaker of North Valley Vineyards, has been instrumental in shaping the winery’s philosophy and practices since its inception in 2018. With over 25 harvests under his belt, Cahill’s expertise in the Valley’s diverse terroir has guided La Biblioteca’s commitment to producing wines that express the character of the region and dedication to organic farming.

“We are thrilled to welcome François to the team,” says Cahill. “His success in Burgundy and dedication to sustainability are playing a crucial role in propelling La Bib to the next level.”

La Biblioteca’s wines are crafted with a deep respect for the land, practicing organic farming to maintain the health of the vineyard, which is certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology), the highest level of sustainability certification in the Pacific Northwest. This whole farm approach ensures the preservation of native habitat, watershed quality, and biodiversity.

The winery’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are true expressions of the Willamette Valley. The Pinot Noir offers perfumed and floral notes with dark fruit flavors, while the Chardonnay offers aromas of pear, apple, and lemon verbena. Both wines reflect the distinctive qualities of La Biblioteca’s Aegrina Vineyard, which benefit from rich soils, varied climates, and careful stewardship.

Continues Millet, “It’s a wonderful climate for fruit to ripen slowly and produce wines with ample structure, fine tannins, natural acidity, and greater aging ability.”

As La Biblioteca strengthens its collaboration with Millet, wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs can expect exquisitely crafted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that tell the story of Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
