The Juice Truck 3-Day Cleanse

by | Aug 11, 2014

The Juice Truck is exactly that-a giant, pink (technically “watermelon” hued) truck at the corner of Abbott and Water Street in Vancouver’s Gastown. This super popular mobile juice bar has inspired a slew of others, while still leading the pack for their premium cold-pressed, imaginative and researched juices. In addition to the superior nutrition of their cold-press methods, founders Zach Berman and Ryan Slater support local produce and organic farmers whenever possible, and source their international products carefully and sustainably. From the sunny and memorable bottled juices and sought-after packaged cleanses to their brand new bright and minimalistic brick-and-mortar location (with healthy veggie-based breakfast and lunch items) in Mount Pleasant, their methodology has paid off. Business is brisk, the company is buzzing and The Juice Truck is helping folks hit the reset button all over Greater Vancouver.

Inspiration strikes in unlikely times. Two weeks into a Himalayan trek and snowbound in a small Nepalese village, the buddies noticed the locals drinking a sweet, orange hued drink. They learned the bright drink from Seabuckthorn berries supplied the locals with many of their essential nutrients, planting the seed to explore what other nutritious ingredients they could introduce to Vancouver.

A fan of their bottled juices, I tried the 3-day cleanse, designed to give the body a break gently from unhealthy food choices, dehydration and general excess. After I placed my order, I awaited delivery of 21 bottled juices, all specifically ordered for maximum effectiveness. In advance of the 5 or 7 day cleans, the 3 day is meant for cleanse newbies (like me), the stressed-out (deadlines!) or those who suffer from chronic inflammation or digestive upset (check). Though six fruit and vegetable juices each day (plus one protein-packed nut milk) proved too much for my form of IBS to–ahem-stomach-it was fantastic to revise and revive my diet to include The Digestive (cucumber, apple, spinach, celery, parsley, lemon), The Energizer (E3Live algae, coconut water, pineapple, mint, ginger) and Refresh Tonic (fennel, cabbage, cucumber, pear, aloe vera, ginger).

Packaging, presentation, process – and most importantly – taste – were top tier throughout, making it an easy and effective pick-me-supplement to your life. If I were looking to consume juices on regular basis, I might look into making my own using resources such as goodnature.com to add some variety.
