Jacob Williams Winery 2010 Syrah

by | Apr 8, 2015

The Columbia River Gorge can be described as a region of drastic change. Within the space of merely 60 miles, the entire landscape changes—from an area with just about as much rainfall as the Amazon, to a virtual desert right out of the Arabian Nights. Because of this, the boundaries for wine are limitless. The darkest, most luscious Syrahs along with the brightest and most delicate Riesling can all be successfully grown. To own a winery here, means you have room to experiment.

Jacob Williams Winery, a family-run boutique winery in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge AVA, finds itself nestled on the banks of the Columbia River, located on the drier side of the rain shadow. This central location gives it easy access to numerous local vineyards that represent the diverse range of climates and soil types of the region.

The 2010 Syrah is a big a big and rich wine with essence of Old World flavors. For this wine, the winery utilized grapes from the Hi-Valley Vineyards in The Dalles, Oregon. With dry, hot summers and equally dry, cold winters, the result is a well-aged wine with deep, subtle flavors. Notes of black and white pepper, cocoa powder, minerality and currants surround this complex offering of Syrah. More subtle, with complexity of flavors bubbling under the surface, the 2010 Syrah is the perfect pairing for a spring barbeque. Taste the wine for yourself at the grand opening of the new Jacob Williams Winery tasting room on site at the winery this Saturday and Sunday.
