Thirty minutes outside of Boise, in Idaho’s Snake River Valley AVA, rests the product of more than 30 years of family-owned winemaking tradition. Since 1982, the Stowe clan has been blending regional grapes and bottling award-winning varieties at Indian Creek Winery. Among these, the winery offers a handcrafted Viognier as part of its small-lot collection. After releasing only 70 cases of the 2012 vintage and taking home the gold medal at that year’s Idaho Wine Competition, Indian Creek returns with the 2013 Unoaked Viognier.
With the absence of heavier barrel-aged notes, this Viognier is light-bodied, with vivid acid that lifts peach notes into focus—crisp at the finish, with subtle and lingering citrus from orange peel essence. Once you’ve got a glass or two down the hatch, challenge yourself and tablemates to an I-spy search for the hidden dog on the front label, inspired by Dahlia, the winery’s resident dog.
