Ice Harbor Brewing Co.’s Lighthouse Lager

by | Nov 13, 2014

Recalling the infamous “Is Pluto a planet?” debate, Ice Harbor Brewing Co. is prominently positioned on a rock that’s apparently large enough to garner its own name: Clover Island in Kennewick, Washington. Size aside, this island hideaway—located between a small port and an inn—has grown to become a local staple over the last decade, offering typical brewery fare, and more importantly, an array of great beers.

Their nautically titled Lighthouse Lager is a light ale, both in body and in alcohol content at only 4.8 percent. The pour is a bright honey or amber color with fruity and hoppy notes escaping a sudsy head. The mouthfeel on this Vienna-style lager is slightly tangy with citrus and malt flavors colliding in such a way you might wonder if Ice Harbor invented an orange grain just for this brew. Also in the mix are a bit of hops, some apple tartness and a hint of ginger.
