Five Boozy Races to Hit the Pavement For

by | May 10, 2016

There’s nothing like a cold one waiting at the finish line to keep you going. This summer, race for booze of the wine and beer varieties while staying in shape and benefiting local charities – what more could we ask for? From cycling to running to walking, each race is unique, but the goal is the same – a rewarding glass of the good stuff.

21st Annual Haul Ash || May 21 || Woodinville, WA
Redhook Brewery’s annual bike ride from Woodinville to Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood is back. The 42-mile ride will last approximately 2.5 to 4 hours (depending on how thirsty you are) and conclude with a post-pedal after party at the brewery with live music and of course, bevs. This bike ride commemorates the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens and benefits The Hope Heart Institute.

Cycle Challenge and Cycle de Vine || June 25 || Chelan, WA
Two courses await in Chelan on June 25th. Experienced cyclists can tackle the Century Challenge, a 100-mile ride with a trio of loops featuring elevation gain across Washington terrain. For a smoother ride, Cycle de Vine – still 30 miles – is a solid choice. Both courses raise proceeds for the Lake Chelan Rotary, and riders can snag snacks and coupons to local Chelan wineries along the ride to enjoy during the weekend.

Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon || August 13 || Willamette Valley, OR
Head to Oregon’s Yamhill county – just under an hour from downtown Portland – for a family-friendly race through Oregon Wine Country. Along with cash, winners leave with a bottle of wine straight out of the Willamette Valley. Proceeds also go to the American Diabetes Association, Yamhill Carlton Together Cares and Every Mother Counts.

Columbia Winery Charity Run & Walk || August 20 || Woodinville, WA
Support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital with a walk or run in Woodinville, Washington. Last year’s race raised over $100,000 – make this year even more successful by lacing up those sneakers and hitting the trail. The race begins at 7 a.m. at Columbia Winery.

Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon || September 4 || Kelowna, British Columbia
In the heart of Canada’s Okanagan Valley, up-and-coming wine region Kelowna is the best sight for sore eyes – and sore legs. Set between the glorious mountains and Okanagan Lake and featuring endless rows of fruit orchards and vineyards, this half marathon wraps up at Waterfront Park to celebrate with a wine and music festival.
