The special release is an oak-aged ale infused with beautifully delicate Japanese green tea
Seattle, WA (March 26, 2024) – Fair Isle Brewing, a Seattle brewery specializing in exceptional lagers and saisons, is about to release this year’s Hanami on March 28th. Hanami is an oak-aged ale infused with Japanese green tea and bottle conditioned with meadowfoam honey.
“The concept originated from tasting some incredible teas from Miro Tea here in Ballard,” said Andrew Pogue, Owner of Fair Isle Brewing. “The fresh floral character and subtle fruitiness of their Sakura Sencha blend captured our imagination. Hanami brings out the best in each ingredient, creating a combination that we could only arrive at through exploration and our continual mindset of curiosity.”
Hanami has balanced notes of honeycomb, spring blossoms, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, and hints of tart stone fruit that lead to a wonderfully rounded finish.
Just in time for the cherry blossoms to be at their peak in the region, Fair Isle’s Hanami is a reminder to pause and enjoy the special moments of life with friends and family.
Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers and is an annual celebration of Sakura and springtime. People gather around cherry blossom trees with family and friends to enjoy delicious drinks and food under the beautiful pink trees, often with the petals gently snowing from the branches when in full bloom.
Fair Isle is hosting a couple fun events to celebrate this year’s Hanami.
On Thursday, March 28th, Fair Isle’s kitchen, 49th St Beast, will be serving up Braised Baby Beets with vache cheese, bee pollen, and meringue made with Sakura Sencha tea.
On Saturday, March 30th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Miro Tea will be popping up in Fair Isle’s taproom for a special tasting of teas the brewery uses in different beers. Fair Isle will be tapping kegs of Mei Zi, an oak-aged ale with plumrose oolong tea and Miro, a raspberry saison steeped with raspberry leaves. This event is free and open to the public. No reservations needed.
Fair Isle Brewing is dedicated to utilizing Pacific Northwest and sustainable ingredients and brewing with time-honored traditions. Their approach for both saisons and lagers is around depth, nuance, and easy drinking.
Hanami will be available at Fair Isle’s taproom and in cans at local stores up and down the west coast.
Fair Isle’s taproom is located at 936 NW 49th St Seattle, WA 98107 and is open Monday through Friday, 3pm to 10 pm and Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 10pm.
