It is harder to find a more quintessential representation of the Oregon farm, then at EZ Orchard Farm Market out of the Willamette Valley. First opened in 1929 by Edward Valentine Zielinski, EZ Orchards Farm Market has been offering the “bounty of the Willamette Valley” to adoring fans ever since. EZ Orchards began planting cider apple and perry varietals in 2000, under the tutelage of fourth generation orchardist Kevin Zielinski. The aim was to produce French-style Champagne cidre, which differs from American cider in that it has a longer fermentation time, stronger tannins, and isn’t as filtered, making for a strong bouquet and more rustic flavors.
The Hawk Haus Cider epitomizes this in every way. Upon the initial pour, you’re struck with the amount of bubbles, and aromas of under ripe (in a good way) apples, and subtle notes of minerals and herbs. On the palate, flavors of pure apples, not too ripe, not too green, as well as flavors of stone fruit, apricot and honeydew. Crisp and refreshing, light in body, with a medium-long finish, the Hawk Haus Cider makes for a perfect representation of Willamette Valley terrior.
