Drifters: The Paramount Hotel

by | Nov 6, 2013

You generally have to compromise space for location in city hotels. There seems to be some sort of complex reverse algorithm in place: the closer you are to the downtown core, the smaller the square footage of your room becomes. Downtown fringe equals walls expand. This is especially true in cities like Seattle, where hotels are often re-purposed buildings, or rebuilt on (tiny) existing footprints for maximum accommodation. One recent welcome revelatory wrinkle in the mathematic formula is the Paramount Hotel.

The location couldn’t be better–tucked in the very heart of downtown Seattle. You’re steps away from Pacific Place shopping center, one block from the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, and 10 minutes leisurely stroll down to Pike Place Market. From my suite on the top floor I could see the iconic Public Market sign glowing. When you can break away from exploring downtown (do NOT miss the dining renaissance happening around nearby Pioneer Square), you’ll find spacious, clean, natural-light flooded and comfortable rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, complimentary high speed wireless internet throughout the hotel and the convenient 24-hour fitness center. I stopped by the onsite Dragonfish Asian Café for late aft sake and small plates (a very happy hour), though they are also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner–plus weekend brunch.

Location, space, cleanliness, comfort–and at an affordable price? Don’t question the math, just bookmark the Paramount for your next downtown Seattle adventure.
