Edgefield: a historic, century-old property that sits on 74-acres of farmland, renovated and revived as what Walt Disney might have envisioned for his adult theme park, with lodging including. A distillery, a brewery, a winery, a cidery, a golf course, soaking pools, movie theater, gardens, art galleries, live music venues, a spa and salon, 10 restaurants, bars and tasting rooms—Edgefield is the all-encompassing catch-all for the McMenamins chain of endless hospitality options.

Focused on food, drink and fun times with the whimsical McMenamins mark, the main building hosts several watering holes just steps from any of the many guestrooms and a drink purchased from within any of the bars can be carried throughout the property.

Grab a printed walking map or simply follow the posted signs to the many eateries, pubs or onsite attractions. Witness the production of the drink in your glass at the brewery, distillery or winery, and shake hands with one of the producers then and there. The claim to Edgefield’s farm-to-table fame is The Black Rabbit Restaurant & Bar, adorned with murals depicting local natural wonders and stacked with intimate booths enclosed by mahogany-lined walls.

Chef Kenny Giambalvo joined the culinary team last year and has since brought the Edgefield farm to the tables of his restaurant, plating up dishes that feature not only the garden’s gifts but flavors from the beverages produced on-site. An extensive wine and spirits list allows guests to get creative outside of the McMenamins drinks, from pages of whiskey to bottles of Côtes du Rhône at matchless price points.

Bring your flippy-floppies—the restrooms are communal and down the hall. Although the showers and toilets are private enclaves for sanity enhancement, shoes to get there and shower in are not frowned upon. Sans television and telephones in-room (although you can find pay phones throughout the property if needed), the unruffled farm-life is encouraged—say howdy to your neighbor and embrace it from a rocking chair on one of the several verandas, drink in hand.
