As the Northwest slips into its spring attire, many seasonal beers don a lighter tone as well. We love all the zesty offerings that allude to summer right around the corner, but Double Mountain Brewery’s complex Molten Lava Imperial IPA this year sure helps with the transition from winter beers. And with a name like that, it even sounds like it’s about to heat the season up.
Filled with citrus notes and strong hops, the Molten Lava is flavorful and assertive. Pine, grapefruit and sweet malt make for a balanced presence and smooth finish. This beer pours golden with a medium white head and doesn’t mess around at 9.0 percent ABV.
