We Dig: Cideries You Can Stay At

by | Nov 15, 2016

Traveling through the Pacific Northwest allows for exploration of wineries, breweries, distilleries, cideries and restaurants that have become nationally renowned. Visiting these locations for a day is never enough time to soak in all that these spots have to offer and a handful of cideries have begun to offer overnight lodging for those wanting more out of their experience. When planning your next cider tour, take these spots into consideration to make the fun last throughout the weekend.

Cockrell Hard Ciders’ Cockrell Cider Farm | Puyallup, WA
For Cockrell brother duo, John and Richard, the Cockrell Hard Ciders farm and onsite production facility is a longtime dream come true. For over 25 years, the two have been making handcrafted beer and cider with locally sourced ingredients. Their six ciders feature a taste for all from semi-sweet to dry and hopped to fruit-infused. The team utilizes Airbnb by renting out a farm-side cottage to guests wanting to stay at the farm. Walk through the apple orchards, enjoy ciders on the tasting room patio, watch the cider production process and take a dip in the pool all within the distance of seven acres. The home accommodates up to six guests and has received a five-star average rating.

Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub’s Guest Quarters | Victoria, BC
Located in historic Victoria, Spinnakers sits on the southern end of Vancouver Island surrounded by gorgeous architecture and lush gardens. The Gastro Brewpub features local fare, brews, wine and, more recently, cider. Using a range of apples from the Okanagan Valley and Victoria orchards, Spinnakers began fermenting blends and exploring the refreshing world of hard cider. On top of fresh food and handcrafted beverage, Spinnakers accommodates overnight stay at their onsite Heritage House, Garden Suites and private bungalow. If you’re in it for the long haul, guesthouses are available in monthly rates, allowing you to live Victoria, on a cidery.

Eaglemount Wine & Cider’s Arcadia Inn | Port Townsend, WA
Made with certified organic or sustainably grown fruit, Eaglemount Wine & Cider takes pride in their cider, wine and mead fermented on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. What began as a tribute to the original homesteaders, who tended the land in 1883, Eaglemount has spread to a second property that is also home to the historic Arcadia Inn. The property features harvest tours, a brand new tasting room and the recently updated overnight accommodations. Perfect for couples, a weekend getaway or solo travelers to step back into simpler times, enjoying panoramic views, quiet nights and artisan cider and wine.

McMenamins’ Edgefield | Troutdale, OR
In hopes of highlighting the crisp, bright flavors of the Pacific Northwest, McMenamins Edgefield Winery began crafting hard cider in 1992 — one of the oldest producers in the area — and has become a destination for restaurant diners, wine and beer lovers, concertgoers and overnight guests. Using high-quality pressed juices from neighboring orchards in the Columbia River Gorge, Edgefield features one year-round signature and five seasonal blends. Staying at the historic Edgefield property allows for exploration of a multitude of activities including flight tasting, brewery tours, spa treatments, glass blowing, golf courses and more.
