Clos du Soleil 2011 Capella

by | Dec 18, 2013

I love white wines in winter. Wines with some weight, roundness and texture to comfort and warm, and acidic enough to cut through laden dishes. One such bottle that fits the bill is the 2011 Capella from Clos du Soleil. This wine was the top white in the 2013 British Columbia Wine Awards, showing that great wine can transcend the seasons.

Tucked into the stony Similkameen Valley rests the sustainably farmed, biodynamically based, French influenced Clos du Soleil. This elegant and structured Bordeaux-styled Sauvignon Blanc is splashed with Semillon, swirling with white grapefruit, white honey, perfumed pear and stony herbaceousness. Partial Sauv Blanc barrel fermentation lends a comfortably rounded mid-palate to this focused, bright wine. Strong in structure, but welcoming in presence, enjoy this with poultry, white fish and chowder.
