Celebrate Summer With Cider Floats

by | Jul 3, 2023

Summer is here, and that means it’s time for refreshing drinks and cool desserts. Why not combine the two? While root beer floats get all the attention, we’re turning to an adult version this summer that can be made in a variety of ways. Hello, cider floats!

Cider floats are made using the same method as a classic soda float. Combine ice cream or sorbet with a complementary cider for the ultimate boozy dessert. A ratio of two scoops per 8-ounces of cider creates a treat that’s fizzy, creamy and wildly delicious. The opportunities for flavor pairings are virtually endless, whether you’re making a bright, fruity treat for the beginning of summer, or creating something more hearty for early fall. Don’t be afraid to get creative while enjoying your favorite ciders! Enjoy a cider float on the deck on a summer evening, or line up plenty of glasses for a party on the lawn with friends or family.

Below, find three pairing recipes to get started.

Orange Creamsicle Cider Float

Take inspiration from a nostalgic ice cream treat. Stem Ciders’ Tangerine Whip is made with apples, tangerine and vanilla, making it the perfect match for orange sorbet. Add two scoops of orange sorbet to a glass and top it with a can of Tangerine Whip for a treat that’s creamy, dreamy and packed with citrus flavor.

Strawberry Summer Cider Float

Add two scoops of strawberry ice cream to a glass as the base for this float. Top with rosé cider from Two K Farms for a punchy, fruity mixture. The color is stunning, and you’ll be introduced to notes of strawberry and watermelon for the ultimate summer sip.

Vanilla Apple Cider Float

Seattle Cider Company’s Honeycrisp is light and refreshing. It’s apple-forward, utilizing juicy Washington-grown Honeycrisp apples. Add two scoops of classic vanilla ice cream to a glass and top it with Honeycrisp cider for the ideal balance of creaminess, while highlighting the crisp apple flavor.
