It’s a mouthful. The name of this new Portland-based cidery and the ciders themselves. Confident and brazen in both branding and cider composition, Cascadia Ciderworkers United represents the broad picture of Northwest-made cider, using “Cascadia-grown” whole apples for their ciders. Named after Maria Ann “Granny” Smith, the British-Australian orchardist culpable for the cultivation of the Granny Smith apple, and fermented with English ale yeast (in her honor), the Granny Smith Hard Apple Cider is widely available in can and on draft in Portland and growing so in other markets. The cider itself is like drinking the apple of its same name, green and tangy, promoting endless juice, bright acid and skin tannin to bounce off of.
