Aslan Brewing Co. Root Beer

by | Jan 12, 2015

Bellingham, Washington seems to be collecting breweries and tap houses as of late. Last summer, the city established the Bellingham Tap Trail to commemorate this thriving scene and also saw the opening of two new breweries: Wander Brewing and Aslan Brewing Co. The latter offers new takes on traditional pub fare (bison burgers, beer soft serve, curry fries) and has well over a dozen of their own beers on tap. Aslan also recently started offering two of its non-alcoholic craft sodas—Ginger Ale and Root Beerfor sale in a 32oz refillable growler.

Their house-made Root Beer is a stout-like dark brown that’s slightly creamy looking with a nose that’s familiarly root beer but is also slightly grainy. It pours with a nice soapy head that has a thicker, creamy or slightly syrupy mouthfeel with notes of dried orange peel, anise and mint. Both the root beer and ginger ale are excellent on their own and make for great cocktail mixers.
