SEATTLE, WA – For decades, Teresa Spellman Gamble’s life was a delicate balancing act – parenting, caring for aging parents, volunteering, and managing the demands of an executive career.
“While each of these roles brought purpose, they also required a level of sacrifice that left little room for creativity,” said Spellman Gamble. “Picking up a brush felt like taking my first deep breath after years of holding it in. In the quiet moments with paint, I have rediscovered parts of myself that had been buried beneath responsibilities. My art has become my escape, my solace, and my liberation. My work reflects this journey toward freedom. Each abstract form, bold texture, and vibrant color captures the emotions I wasn’t always able to articulate.”
AN ARTIST’S JOURNEY
This solo exhibition at Tinte Cellars marks a significant milestone for Spellman Gamble, who only began selling her work in August 2024.
One of six children born to Washington Governor John Spellman and First Lady Lois Spellman, Spellman Gamble’s love for painting was sparked at a young age.
“My first-grade teacher required that we memorize the names of famous paintings and their artists, not only to introduce us to art but also to help build processing and memory skills,” said Spellman Gamble. “One of those paintings was Head of a Woman in a Hat by Pablo Picasso. I became an immediate fan of Picasso, as well as Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe. I went home and told my parents that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up.”
While she was encouraged to pursue a more “practical” career, the heart of an artist never left her. Spellman Gamble grew up surrounded by a love of art in her family.
“I have very fond memories of watching my father draw and doodle, and I admire the works he created when he was a law student at Georgetown. He would go to jazz clubs and draw the performers and audience members. I was always amazed at his abilities but more so by the joy it brought him – and me!” said Spellman Gamble.
Later, Teresa’s sister, Margo Spellman, dedicated herself to being a painter.
“I admired her raw talent, but even more, I admired her courage to process life’s ups and downs so openly through her powerful art. Watching her work inspired me to find my own creative voice.”
BLENDING PHILANTHROPY + ART
It wasn’t until Spellman Gamble met renowned California abstract artist Julianna Poldi in 2024 that she finally found the courage to embrace her artistic calling.
Under Poldi’s mentorship, Spellman Gamble has sold 37 paintings, donating over $7,500 from the sale of her original artwork to causes close to her heart.
Spellman Gamble’s dedication to both art and philanthropy shines through in every aspect of her life.
Spellman Gamble and her husband, Tim Gamble, own and operate Tinte Cellars, which was created with a vision to bridge philanthropy with the operation of a premium Washington State winery producing award-winning wines. The winery collective’s motto is “Great Wine for the Greater Good.” Since its founding in 2018, Tinte Cellars has supported more than 230 non-profit organizations in the local and greater WA community with $1.365+ million in Cash and In-Kind donations and hundreds of hours of volunteer community service.
As part of Tinte’s commitment to community-building, Tinte Cellars frequently hosts art exhibitions in support of local artists and charitable causes, offering a unique platform for creative expression.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Teresa Spellman Gamble was raised with a devotion to community, volunteerism, and philanthropy. She attributes her upbringing to her lifelong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and her unending desire to leave the world better than she found it.
Spellman Gamble is an active community volunteer, including serving as co-chair for the Mary’s Place No Child Sleeps Outside campaign (2023 and 2024) and as a board member of the Auction of Washington Wines, which supports Seattle Children’s Hospital, WSU Viticulture & Enology, and Vital Wines. Teresa is also a Seattle Children’s Circle of Care Council member, a Business Journal Leadership Trust member, and a founding member of the Seattle Women in Business for Good/Grapevine.
Spellman Gamble and her husband, Tim Gamble, were recently named 2024 Changemakers by Sip Magazine for their work to reshape the wine industry through innovative approaches.
Spellman Gamble holds a BA in English and an MPA in Public Administration from the University of Washington, where she worked as an executive for over three decades. When she isn’t painting or supporting Tinte Cellars, Teresa loves spending time with her New York City-based sons, enjoying live music and theater, hiking, beachcombing, and traveling the globe with her husband – all of which inspire her paintings.
