Alter Ego Cider Red Raspberry

by | Jan 13, 2015

Extending and expanding her dedication to the craft market, Portland’s Helioterra winemaker Anne Hubatch (read about her 2012 Yakima Valley Syrah here) teamed up with fellow Rose City producers Nate Wall and Kris Wall of Whoa Nelly Wines and Guild Winemakers to release Alter Ego Cider. The small-batch, handcrafted ciders come at consumers from exclusively Northwest apples, pressed fresh and cold fermented to be distinctively apple, “balancing the apple’s crispness with a touch of its sweetness for a refreshing yet pleasingly complex cider.” With that as that mentality and profile as the base, Alter Ego kicked off with a straight apple which they have now infused with Northwest raspberries for their first seasonal, Red Raspberry cider. Alluring on color alone, this cider smells like it should—juicy raspberry, plush apple with citrus and floral aromas circling in the glass. The palate seeks similar sensations in flavor and seemingly Alter Ego’s goal: wide, round mouthfeel focused on apple with the tart snap of raspberry.
