New urban cidery and taproom offers local beverages and mystical vibes

Portland, OR (August 26, 2025) – Alchemy Cider, a new cidery and bar, opened Saturday in the Buckman neighborhood of Portland at 818 SE Ankeny Street. Alchemy Cider is one of two Portland-based cideries, and offers a focused lineup of small-batch ciders alongside guest taps featuring local ciders and craft beers.

The taproom has 30 taps, featuring Alchemy’s six flagship ciders and rotating small-batch releases, six other local ciders, six beers, kegged wines, and non-alcoholic options like fresh apple juice and nonalcoholic craft beer.

Alchemy Cider’s six flagship ciders include:

Garden of Delights – Ripe peach and green cardamom

Eternal Apple – Semi-dry tavern cider

Desolation Dry – Bone-dry and crisp

Leviathan Bite – Tropical flavors of pineapple, passion fruit, and key lime

Blackberry Magic – Juicy blackberry with aromatic lemon verbena

Forbidden Fields – Oregon strawberries, yuzu zest & hibiscus

“My whole purpose is to give people a spiritual connection to their beverage,” says founder Kirk Evans. “When I have a beer or wine that’s impeccable, it’s a hair-raising experience. I want everyone to have that wonder.”

Evans is a seasoned beverage professional with years of experience in the industry, where he has worked in brewing, cidermaking, and branding for companies across the Pacific Northwest. He founded a digital marketing agency and has consulted on marketing and packaging for many brands. In the cider world, Evans worked as Marketing Director for Bauman’s Cider Co. (the only other production cidery in Portland), and as cidermaker at 19 Acres Cider in Sherwood.

Alchemy Cider lead cidermaker Bobby Naughton was the lead cidermaker at Seattle Cider Company for four years, and lead cidermaker at Bauman Cider Co. for four years, before joining Evans at Alchemy. “Getting to create my own ciders is really exciting,” said Naughton. “I love the process of developing and crafting a new flavor and seeing people appreciate it.”

The cidery will craft seasonal collaborations with other beverage makers and artists. A lifelong bassist, Evans has connections in the music scene and looks forward to infusing Alchemy ciders with that influence in forthcoming releases.

Alchemy Cider is housed in a 2,800-square-foot cidery and taproom, and the taproom can accommodate 50 guests. For the bar’s design, Evans worked with Tommy Mitchell of Tomcat Design & Build, the firm behind the design of Pfriem’s new taproom in Milwaukie, Too Soon, Deadshot, and the bars for Ace Hotel. The taproom interior is drenched in black, gold, and emerald, lending a dark mystical vibe to the space. The seating area is cozy, with reupholstered antique church pews and sconces over each table, and wallpaper and wainscoting around the bar.

The urban cidery is open Wednesday through Saturday, moving to a daily model as soon as possible. A forthcoming food truck partnership will be announced in the coming weeks.
