A Milestone 20 Years in the Making

by | Mar 24, 2025

DUNDEE, OR – Sixty years after the first vines took root, the Dundee Hills remains the heart of Oregon’s Pinot Noir movement and a globally recognized AVA. Shaped by its signature Jory soils and a spirit of innovation, the region established a legacy of world-class wines, sustainability, and collaboration. As we celebrate 20 years since the official recognition of our AVA, we honor the pioneering winemakers who started it all and the next generation carrying the legacy forward. It started here for a reason.

The Dundee Hills AVA is home to many well-known vineyards, wineries, and tasting rooms, including 61 members of the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association, 28 of which hold LIVE certification and three with B-Corp certification (more than any other AVA worldwide). Restaurants in the Dundee Hills range from fine dining to casual, all featuring seasonal menus with local ingredients where guests can enjoy expertly crafted meals paired with their favorite Dundee Hills vintages. Lodging options include luxury hotels, cozy B&Bs, and private rentals, all offering stunning views and warm hospitality.

To mark the 20-year milestone, the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association (DHWA) will host a series of celebratory gatherings throughout the year. These events will highlight the region’s deep-rooted history, trailblazing winemakers, and forward-thinking approaches shaping the future of Dundee Hills wines. More details and registration will be available this spring.

  • April 17 at Argyle Winery – Wine tasting + panel to kick off the 20th-anniversary celebrations in the AVA
  • July 26 at Vinovate Custom Wine Services – Wine tasting and more to celebrate peak travel season in the AVA
  • October 25 at Alexana – Wine tasting and more to celebrate the harvest season

Each event will offer immersive experiences, including exclusive tastings, behind-the-scenes vineyard access, and intimate conversations with the people who make Dundee Hills an iconic wine destination. The year’s festivities present a timely opportunity to experience wine country at a gentler, more personal pace while celebrating the land, the wine, and the community that make the Dundee Hills so special.

In the Dundee Hills, terroir isn’t just tasted—it’s experienced. It’s the volcanic soil underfoot, the misty mornings and the cool climate nurturing the vines, and the passion of the people who steward the fruit from vines to bottle to bring it all to life. Whether savoring Pinot Noir among rolling vineyards or connecting with the winemakers defining the next era, we invite everyone to be part of this milestone year in Oregon’s premier wine country.
