With all the love pumpkin spice receives, sometimes the rest of autumn’s star flavors get pushed to the back burner—warm, sweet caramel included. Though plenty of gooey, caramel-coated apples can be found seasonally in candy shop windows, perhaps you’re looking for a lighter way to indulge at any hour (perhaps with breakfast?) Start with a mug, boiling kettle and a canister of No. 21 Caramel Crème Brûlée from the neighborhood tea-blending masters at Portland’s Tea Chai Té. As it steeps, French crème-infused black tea warms the senses with a touch of sweet caramel and kick-starts the day with a mild dose of caffeine. Add a splash of half-and-half for an ultra-creamy treat, or sip on its own for what Tea Chai Té appropriately dubs “a liquid dessert” (that you can enjoy in the morning).
