The Reynvaan family defines its wines by way of two different vineyards styles of the Walla Walla Valley—one vineyard called “In the Rocks” that is driven by the craggy and mineral-rich soil it is planted in and the other called “Foothills in the Sun,” for a more classically southwest facing hillside, high elevation vineyard. The two vineyards fuel Reynvaan Family Vineyards, with contrasting (yet not conflicting) speeds of wine as the result. The In the Rocks 2010 Syrah is pulled from the prior vineyard for its third vintage, with the namesake varietal co-fermenting with Viognier to take the already unique terroir wine to another level. Sultry aromas of ripe red fruit, currants, raspberries and dried cherry pop while a savory note of tomato leaf, wet stone, smoke and mandarin orange from the Viognier come with time in the glass. The texture on the palate is glossy and round with lingering tannins that hold to the coffee beans, raspberry and plum of the finish.
