Classes by the glasses: Vancouver Urban Winery starts “Sunday School” on April 14th.
For anyone who’s ever been in the market for good wine but gets easily overwhelmed by the vast sea of options at stores, a new kind of Sunday school is starting — and you’ll want to leave the Bible out of this. Starting April 14, Vancouver-based sommeliers David Stansfield and Lisa Cook will launch their four part wine education series called Sunday School at the Vancouver Urban Winery.
Sunday School will offer attendees a fun and energetic learning experience in an informal and accessible environment for drinkers of all levels with, of course, lots of wine.
Each course will feature flights of wine set to a theme for the evening. On April 14, take a tour the wines of the world in “Wine 101: A World Tour of Wine.” Following the trip around the world is “Better Know A B.C. Winery” on April 28, which will feature wines from British Columbia’s own Joie Farm and will be presented by owner and winemaker Heidi Noble, with more themed classes to come to the calendar in the near future.
Doors to the Vancouver Urban Winery will open for Sunday School classes at 6 pm and will include a tour. Class will begin at 7 pm and last until 9. Following will be an hour of mingling with other students and more wine — of course.
Stanfield’s experience in the industry comes from his background as in-house sommelier of the Vancouver Urban Winery, Daniel Hospitality Group, and consultant for several Vancouver restaurants and friends alike. Cook currently works as cellar manager at downtown Vancouver’s JOEY Bentall One’s wine room.
The Vancouver Urban Winery is located in the city’s Railtown neighborhood. The winery currently offers consumers a tasting bar and wine shop. In addition, the winery also manufactures, packages, imports and distributes for several other wineries.
Sunday School runs $35 per class or $120 for those interested in a full education. Tickets can be purchased online here.
