5 PNW Beers Celebrating Pride

by | Jun 20, 2017

Pride Month has been in full swing across the U.S., with plenty of craft producers coming together in support of the love, safety and enduring independence of the LGBTQ community. And Pacific Northwest breweries are quickly jumping on board to make the most of the festivities in the way they know how: by making great beer. To get in on the fun, here are five Pride-focused brews all in the name of love and beer.

Pride Kölsch | Fremont Brewing | Time to beat the summer heat in Pride Month style. Seattle’s Fremont Brewing recently released the Pride kölsch, a sessionable brew with Huell Melon and Loral hops. This celebratory koölsch will be distributed in cans and on draft across Washington state. Net proceeds are donated to Seattle’s Lambert House and Ingersoll Gender Center. Sip on notes of orange peel, melon and berry with a kölsch that fosters the Seattle LGBTQ community.

Pride PA | Everybody’s Brewing | For the Pride PA, Everybody’s in White Salmon, Washington, teamed up with Portland’s gourmet pizza joint HOTLIPS Pizza to create an IPA tribute featuring “a rainbow of hops,” including Mosaic, Simcoe, Denali, Mandarina Bavaria and Centennial. Each year, the Pride PA tap handle features hand-chosen figures that have positively impacted the LGBTQ community. This year features notables like John Waters and Frank Ocean, including a couple of members from the HOTLIPS family.

Pride | Optimism Brewing | Optimism’s own celebration of this month lies within Pride, its farmhouse ale. Patrons can sip on this refreshing saison with its own enthusiastic flavor profile and a tart bite. Though Pride was originally brewed as a seasonal for Seattle Pride Month, the Capitol Hill brewery decided to keep it on tap year-round due to its overwhelming popularity.

Montucky Cold Snacks | Montucky Cold Snacks | It’s drinking with a cause — the Montucky Cold Snacks beer is designed to support and give back to communities and nonprofits. The Bozeman, Montana, company regularly donates to nonprofits, but the Pride Can is the latest rendition of the flagship beer, where 8 percent of the light lager’s overall profit is donated to LGBTQ organizations.

GLITTERis Pride Ale | Elysian Brewing | Seattle | Elysian — the official beer of Seattle Pride — toasts a tribute to Pride Month with the GLITTERis Pride Ale, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Seattle Pride organization. Embrace a blend of Magnum and Mandarina Bavaria hops for a fruit-forward hop punch, with additions of blackberry and raspberry puree that add stunning color.
