10th Annual Cider Week Hudson Valley Goes Virtual

by | Jun 11, 2020

The New York Cider Association is thrilled to announce, in response to the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Cider Week Hudson Valley is going to be held virtually. The on-line festival will run from Saturday, June 20 – Sunday, June 28, 2020. The schedule will include a week of virtual tastings, orchard tours, happy hour cocktail recipe video tutorials, chef and cider pairing online dinner dates, online panel conversations, and more. Attendance for the online festival is free. To register for the online festival and for more information about specific events and where to buy cider, visit www.ciderweekhv.com.
“Now in its 10th year, Cider Week Hudson Valley is known for creating connections between the region’s cider makers and apple growers to craft beverage and farm-to-table enthusiasts. Given the current environment of social distancing, we see this as an opportunity to try something new and continue the tradition of celebrating cider in the Hudson Valley,” says Scott Ramsey, Executive Director of the New York Cider Association.
“We’re thrilled about a virtual Cider Week Hudson Valley as it gives us a chance to continue to come together and taste, celebrate and enjoy cider as a community in a new and interesting way,” says Jamie Corrao, General Manager at Angry Orchard, a presenting sponsor.
Also a presenting sponsor, Glynwood’s Director of Regional Food Programming, Megan Larmer, says, “Glynwood is proud of its continuing support of the New York Cider Association and Cider Weeks across New York. We’re looking forward to seeing what’s possible with an online Cider Week Hudson Valley festival, and excited for online experiences that bring you closer to our iconic orchards and the world class cider they produce!”
One distinct event for virtual Cider Week Hudson Valley is a “Farm-to-Home” dinner date produced by Glynwood in association with Executive Chef of 232 Bleecker, Suzanne Cupps, and Artisan Wines of Beacon. The audience can pre-purchase a cook-at-home dinner box complete with a recipe, ingredients and an optional cider pairing. A video, airing at 6:30pm on Sunday, June 28, will feature Chef Cupps instructing on how to prepare the meal and Tim Buzinski of Artisan Wines discussing his selections of cider and how each of them consider the pairing of cider with each course. Sales for the dinner boxes are available at https://www.glynwood.org/events. Once ordered, instructions will be given as to when to pick up the dinner box at Artisan Wine where curated cider pairings can be added.
Although the festival is free, donations will be accepted. Most importantly, the New York Cider Association is donating 20% of proceeds raised through donations to the Restaurant Workers Community Foundation focused on Covid-19 relief and issues of Social Justice. For more information on how to donate, please visit https://ciderweekhv.com.
Current participating cider makers include: Angry Orchard Innovation Cider House (Walden), Graft Cider (Newburgh), Hudson North Cider Company (Newburgh), Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider (Stone Ridge), Little Apple Cidery (Hillsdale), Merchants Daughter (Purdy’s), Metal House Cider (Esopus), Naked Flock Hard Cider (Warwick), Orchard Hill Cider Mill (New Hampton), Original Sin Cider (TBD), Pennings Farm Cidery (Warwick), Rose Hill Farm (Red Hook), and Treasury Cider (Hopewell Junction).
