Willows Lodge’s Iron Vintner Challenge

The search for the next Iron Vintner

Food challenges are some of the best kinds of competitions out there. The action, the techniques, the taste and the craft all come together to create a morsel more delicious than all the rest. But food challenges are especially great because when chefs compete, foodies always win.

Through the month of June, four renowned Woodinville, Wash. vintners are moving into the kitchen to sharpen their knives and ignite their grills in hopes of being crowned the 2013 Iron Vintner.

Competing in the 4th annual Iron Vintner Challenge is Avennia’s Chris Peterson, Baer Winery’s Lisa Baer, Tyson Schiffner of Betz Family Winery and Tracey LaPierre of DiStefano Winery.

The competition will take place every Wednesday evening through the month of June on the patio outside Fireside Cellars at Willows Lodge. The Barking Frog’s Chef Bobby Moore will play emcee for the evenings while a panel of celebrity foodie judges search for this year’s winner.

Competitors will be given an abundance of ingredients to cook with. But the kicker is the mystery protein Chef Moore will reveal right before the starting bell. Once in action, the two competitors will have 60 minutes to prepare an appetizer and entrée to be judged by the panel.

Audience members will experience the spectacle of these vintners in the kitchen while enjoying tastings from both of their wineries.

The first two competitions will be vintner versus vintner, with the third night being a championship battle between the two previous winners. The final night will be a now sold-out Championship Winemaker Dinner, where Chef Moore will prepare a four-course meal.

Proceeds from the event will support the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. Little Bit’s mission is to help those whom have disabilities improve their body, mind and spirit through horseback riding and to educate about the profession.
