While many people talk about the animals in the vineyards–raptors, deer, turkey vultures, draft horses, sometimes the bee, our wonderful pollinator and starter of wine, needs its own celebration. Enter the Mason Bee Tour & Tasting at Willamette Valley Vineyards’ Estate in the Salem Hills.. More than just a visit, Willamette Valley Vineyards is committed to educating people o the importance of the bee to agriculture all along the Valley. This tour is a start to the educational process, and takes people through the Estate Vineyard to learn about the Mason Bee Program and how it encourages sustainable growing practices. Steven Paisley provides a behind-the-scenes look at our pollinators. So important are these bees to the vineyard they have even established the bees who frequent Willamette Vineyards–at Domaine Willamette- it’s the Short Mason Bee. At the Estate–it’s the Trailing Blackberry Misbehavin’ Sweat Bee. We have planted plants that specifically attract and retain these pollinators.
