If you’ve ever daydreamed of eating a massive slice of Dahlia Bakery’s coconut cream pie while luxuriating in a bathrobe in the privacy of your hotel room, Seattle’s Hotel Andra has you covered.
The 119-room boutique hotel at the edge of downtown and the Belltown neighborhood sits across the street from Dahlia Bakery and its sister restaurant, Dahlia Lounge, both owned by legendary restaurateur Tom Douglas. You can order your pie to go, and no one will judge you for eating every bite in bed.
Hotel Andra’s cheerfully appointed rooms evoke Scandinavian sensibilities — all the more reason to unwind here. The furniture is modern and minimalist, and warm color tones help set a relaxing mood. Your options include 250-square-foot “Ändra Rooms” with one-king, one-queen and two-queen bed configurations, “Studios” with one queen bed, “Superia Rooms” covering 400square feet, “Lux Suites” at the building’s corners with separate sitting rooms and bedroom areas and the presidential “Monarch Suite,” with an in-room jetted tub.
Though the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant to call its own, Tom Douglas’s Lola is downstairs. The menu focuses on Mediterranean food, and in true Douglas fashion, every dish is well executed. Lola offers room service daily, including breakfast, and even a limited late-night option that the kitchen can deliver after business hours. Several of Douglas’ other restaurants sit within a few steps of the hotel’s entrance, as does the booming restaurant scene around the Amazon campus.
Dining is not the only reason to pick Hotel Andra among your numerous downtown accommodation options. There’s also the impressive lobby, with its grand fireplace, maple bookshelves, ceiling beams and stacks of firewood. The plush furniture here and in the second floor Andra Loft are a welcoming space to read a book or catch up on email. Tom Douglas’s Hot Stove Society cooking school is also on the second floor, should you decide to partake in a class.
Helpful staff are quick to offer to call a cab, help with a restaurant or activity recommendation, or assistance in navigating your way around. The hotel is situated perfectly for a weekend of exploring downtown, as its within easy walking distance of major points of interest like Pike Place Market, the Seattle waterfront and numerous shops. Though situated conveniently, the din of downtown’s bustle fades once you’re in your room and relaxation comes easily.
