For Redmond, Washington’s Caffè Lusso, coffee is less about drinking and more about tasting. One of their founding concepts encourages their consumer to “put the world on hold for five minutes” and just “smell, sip and savor” their coffee. Since 2000, the roaster’s approach has been to provide their customers with coffee that is of the same high quality as the beans they buy, promoting direct trade and the personal relationships they have with their single-origin growers, like the Costa Rice La Minita Estate. This medium-roast blend is from the Tarrazu region in eastern Costa Rica, from a sought-after estate that only accepts 13-15 percent of the plantation’s total crop for the final product. Aromas of mandarin, cocoa powder and earth carry onto the smooth and clean palate, for a medium-body pick-me-up that is truly about the smells, sips and savors of the bean.
