4 Spirits Distillery Spiced Rum

by | Dec 18, 2015

As with brandy as featured in last week’s spirits Daily Sip, spiced rum is another perfect liquor for winter. With its rich flavors derived from caramelized sugars, its woodsy complexity and its warming effects, this particular distillate is always welcome anywhere from a piping-hot fireside cocktail to a festive Christmas punch.

The amber-hued spiced rum from 4 Spirits Distillery in Adair Village, Oregon is coaxed from a molasses and cane sugar-based mixture, and infused with an array of spices and natural flavors. At first whiff, buttery caramel and a surprisingly strong aroma of ripe banana emanate from the 80-proof spirit. On the palate, hints of other tropical fruits intermingle with rich brown sugar, while a full cast of baking spices rounds out the finish. This reliable yet versatile spirit will play well with flavors as diverse as cola, cranberry and orange zest well into the New Year.
