Pinot in the City

Prepare to savor the renowned wines of Oregon’s Willamette Valley as winemakers and winery principals journey northward to Seattle’s Emerald City on May 8, 2024. Presented by the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA), Pinot in the City brings together a curated ensemble of skilled vintners and winery owners from the Willamette Valley, inviting both industry professionals and the public to indulge in an unparalleled tasting experience. Marking its return to Seattle, where it first debuted 14 years ago, this eagerly anticipated event will showcase close to 60 esteemed wineries from the Willamette Valley. Moreover, the occasion doubles as a commemoration of a significant milestone: the 40th anniversary of the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) designating the Willamette Valley as Oregon’s first American Viticultural Area (AVA).

Pinot in the City has since sold-out venues across the country, from San Francisco to Chicago to New York City. “One of the event’s greatest elements is placing the winemaker and wine enthusiast in the same room, allowing for one-on-one contact and the details behind every pour,” said Morgen McLaughlin, executive director of the WVWA. “Making this kind of connection would normally require
traveling to the Willamette Valley.”

Pinot in the City reflects the diversity of styles, personalities, and varieties at play in the Willamette Valley. Producers—ranging from larger pioneers like Adelsheim and Elk Cove Vineyards to up-and comers like Sealionne and Arabilis—will highlight Willamette Valley’s signature variety Pinot noir, but will also be serving other outstanding wines, such as Chardonnay, Pinot gris, and Riesling. Many labels
have area distributors, but some do not, giving attendees at Pinot in the City an opportunity to check in on new releases from old standbys as well as experience new, hard-to-find producers.

“Returning to the vibrant city of Seattle multiple times allows us to illustrate the remarkable evolution of wines over the course of many years,” said Kate Norris, winemaker at Division Wine Company, who will be pouring her wine at the event. “Though consistently of exceptional quality, each vintage reflects the distinct nuances of its growing season, presenting our Pacific Northwest friends with an ever-evolving and
intriguing selection.”
