Buty Winery 2011 Semillon, Sauvignon & Muscadelle

by | Jul 3, 2013

The increasingly popular blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc in Washington state is transformed and revised by winemaker Caleb Foster of Buty Winery in his 2011 Sémillon, Sauvignon & Muscadelle. Mostly because of the latter, Foster’s blend is balanced out by 21% Muscadelle into the more traditional mix of 60% Sémillon and 19% Sauvignon. Mineral-driven but fleshy, ripe fig and pear from Sémillon are the most revealing aromas, while the vibrant acidity and grapefruit tones from the Sauvignon Blanc and a honeysuckle and floral notes of the Muscadelle develop on the palate. Round from aging on the lees in neutral oak but crisp from time spent in a concrete tank, this wine is plump but refreshing.
